"Echoes of Sacrifice" Prosthetic

"Echoes of Sacrifice" is a narrative-driven visual character creation, realized over a 6-week process of designing, sculpting, mold creation, casting, painting and prosthetic application

Concept Story

In the vastness of the cosmos, a group of interstellar explorers voyaged across galaxies for years, discovering a world with a rare, human-friendly atmosphere. They found a breathtaking cenote in a cave on the surface, swimming in its tranquil beauty and relaying their exciting discovery back to central command. However, dawn brought the horrifying mutation of their bodies, marked by a celestial map of blue and red. As fear gripped the group, they discovered that the disease could transfer from person to person upon touch, completely vacating its previous host. In the face of this terrifying reality, a courageous explorer volunteered to take on the disease from her crewmates. As the alien infection took over, she experienced an intense, irresistible pull towards the cenote - a life-dependent urge that could not be ignored.

Returning to the place of initial wonder, the explorer's transformation into a figure resembling an underwater matriachical goddress was complete. Her new form featured a blue veil of shifting colours, a shell-shaped chin, a single pearl embedded in her forehead symbolizing her sacrifice, and her mouth that had transformed into an intricate arrangement of gills. Slipping beneath the surface of the water, she felt a profound sense of unity with the cenote, which was not merely a body of water, but a gigantic, sentient single-cell organism. In her new form, she functioned as an organelle within this organism, a testament to humanity's indomitable spirit of exploration, survival, and the capacity for sacrifice, bridging the gap between her kind and this alien world.

 Stages of the process

Start of Sculpting Stage

End of Sculpting Stage

Prosthetic Mold (Ultracal 30)

Foam Latex Prosthetic Piece

Practice Prosthetic Application Day

Final Painted Foam Latex Prosthetic

"Echoes of Sacrifice" represents a detailed 6-week process of sculpting a creature onto a face cast of a model, followed by the creation of a mold using Ultracal 30. This was then cast in foam latex to form a prosthetic skin. The process included the creation of multiple practice pieces and a practice application day to ensure accurate implementation. The final prosthetic skin was painted using PAX paint, and this was complemented by a full upper body paint job on the model, fully realizing the concept of the character.
